Stara Planina is the longest and largest mountain in Bulgaria. It devides the country into North and South Bulgaria, laying across from Serbian border up to the Black Sea. The champion among the peaks of Stara Planina is Botev (2376 m.) and it ranks third among the highest Bulgarian mountain peaks. In spite of its name "Old Mountain", it is a recently folded mountain chain, built mainly of granite but also of limestone and gneiss. As the freezing spread over a small area of the mountain high parts, completely formed cirques are missing. Nevertheless, a part of its relief is typically alpine and this makes Stara Planina interesting and varied.

Program:

Day 1: Arrive at Sofia Airport. Accommodation In Sofia.
Day 2: Starting for Sopot, Ascend to the mountain with the lift to the second station near hut Nezabravka. Ascend peak Levski /2166 m/, peak Levski - Vasil Levski hut. /6 hours/
Day 3: Levski hut - Raj hut /4 hours/; Raj waterfall /124m/ - the highest in Bulgaria.
Day 4: Descend from the mountain to Kalofer /3 hours/ - Gabrovo, accommodation, sightseening in the town.
Day 5: Sightseening in the ethnographic complex Etara, lunch at the hotel, departure to Arbanassi/ , visit the Drjanovo monastery and the cave Bacho Kiro; dinner in Arbanassi.
Day 6: Return to Airport in Sofia.
